depth

Depth used in photography.

In this photograph it shows depth from the way the photo is taken at a angle. The strings seem to be getting smaller as they get further away from you. This angle also makes the strings look like they never end because they seem to go on forever.

This same angle is shown in this photo of the trees, the tree trunks are getting smaller and smaller when they get further away from you. This is called converging parallel. The trees at the start of the photo are seen to be in focus and then get less in focus as they get further away.

From this image you can see that the pathway is also getting smaller when further away. However this image is taken from a centre angle rather than a corner angle.

The photograph is a good example of converging parallel because the train track lines get thinker as they get further away. It makes the train track look as if it goes on forever.

This image of the coke cans had been taken from the corner to show that the cans are getting smaller as they go alone. The same as many of these images the objects at the start of the picture are shown in focus and the others are not.

form

Form used in photography.

In all of these images there is a shadow, therefore all the photographs must have objects in them that are 3D in order for a shadow to form.

In this image you can see a clear outline of a airplane that is made from the light of the sun and reflected as a shadow onto the building. The shadow is shown on a lighter building. this makes the shadow seem darker and easier to see.

This photograph shows two different shadows- one of the goal post and the other of the cat. The way this shadow is reflected it looks like a mirror reflection.

The photo of the arched buildings shows clean use of the sun to create the shadow, reflected onto the ground.
This image shows the building from a certain angle so you can see that the building is 3D.

The tire has been reflected as a shadow onto the ground because of the sun light. If a shadow is made then the object must be 3D or a shadow would not form. Therefore i know that the bike must be a 3D object.

This photo shows the shadow of the giraffe on a brick wall. When looking at the image the giraffe seems to be flat against the wall but the shadow makes the giraffe look 3D and therefore we can see that it is not flat.

The stair case shadow has been reflected onto the wall from the sun light. This creates the effect of the stairs being 3D rather than looking 2D.

colour

Colour used in photography.

This image of the different coloured umbrella represents the use of colour in photography. The colours being next to each other show the contrast between them.

The image of the different colour mixture on the hands is used to show contrast between the different colours.

The photograph of the different coloured houses shows a variety of colours next to each other showing the contrast between them.
I think the brighter the colours are the better the picture is to show it represents colour.

This image being black and white but still having the sweats in colour makes your eye focus directly on the sweats and towards the centre of the image where the sweats are held.

The photo of the smarties shows different colours placed on top of each other. This shows clear use of colour. One of the smarties being half eaten focusses your eye on the contrast between the brown colour and the blue.

The white flowers being against the green leafs make the flowers seem more real life. The yellow middle draws the eye when looking at the photograph.

pattern

There are two types of patterns used in photography. These are:
  • man made- patterns that have been made. For example: brick wall, flooring and mosaics.
  • natural- pattern that occur naturally. For example: leafs, tree trunks and fruit.
Pattens are a sequence that is repeated. This image of the man made brick wall shows a good example of a pattern.

This photograph of a leaf shows a clean example of natural patterns.
The lines formed on the leaf are natural because they occur on the leaf without being made, they just happen.
The individual straight lines are shown all the way through the leaf creating a simple pattern.
There are also curved lines in between each straight line on the leaf, this shows another pattern in a different form.

The patterns in this image are shown through the cracks on the ground. This pattern is also made by using lines. However these lines are wavy lines used to create a different effect. The lines might not be identical to each other but it still shows a example of a pattern.

From this photograph you can tell that the pattern is made man because it is a building. The pattern is shown through the window openings not the brick wall itself. The pattern is going in a diagonal direction.

This image of a kiwi shows a natural pattern inside the fruit when it has been cut open.
It forms a circle shape with white lines at the centre of the fruit and repeated black dots of seeds.

This mosaic is man made. It is made from tinny tiles and a variety of colors, they are placed together to make a pattern.

shape

shape:

when using shape in photography it shows the outline of a object. These six images are examples of the way shapes can be used.

This photograph of a silhouette is an example of shape because it shows the outline of the upper face from the shoulders to the head. You can see the outline of the eyes, nose and mouth from a side view. This image is black so that you concentrate on the actual shape of the photo not the detail.

From this photograph you can see two different types of shape, the object itself which is a 3D circle that is used to create the other shape that is a heart. I think this image is interesting as it creates a different kind of shape that you wouldn't normal find on or from a object.

This image of the white tubes makes a circular shape. You can tell from the picture that the tubes are 3D shapes because you can see through them and they form a dark shadow. I think this image is quite plain and could have been taken from a better angle but it shows a good example of shape.

The shapes made in the photograph are shown from a reflection of the sun making the shapes appear onto the table. These shapes are also circles. I like this image because of the way it is made black and white it draws the eye to the circles as they are white.

In this image of the buildings you can see that the shapes are shown through the actual building shapes. The shapes are formed by different types of lines. For example: the thick, wide lines forming the key shaped outside and then the small lines making the shape of the building.

This image is taken from below the stairs creating a swirl shape from the lines used on the stair case. I like this image because of the angle it is taken from, i think it makes the stairs almost seem as if they go on forever.
